报告摘要
An exciting new development in spintronics [1] are magnetic skyrmions, which are topologically distinct spin textures.  Magnetic skyrmions exhibit quasi-particle like behavior and can be manipulated with very low electric currents.  Thus it is envisioned that data in low power information technologies could be encoded in topological charges.  Towards this goal we demonstrated at room temperature stable magnetic skyrmions in magnetic heterostructures.  Using inhomogeneous charge currents allows the generation of skyrmions in a process that is remarkably similar to the droplet formation in surface-tension driven fluid flows [2].  Detailed micromagnetic simulations show that there are at least two regimes with different skyrmion formation mechanisms [3].  Lastly, we demonstrated that the topological charge gives rise to a transverse motion on the skyrmions, i.e., the skyrmion Hall effect [4].
