Microwave assisted magnetization recording (MAMR) has attracted much attention as one of the prospective future recording technologies.
In MAMR, the field required for magnetization switching can be significantly reduced by applying radio frequency magnetic fields. The microwave
assistance effect is regarded as not only a technology to reduce the switching field of the media but also a way to control the precessional
motion of magnetization. Thus the control of magnetization precession may lead to new recording strategy such as 3D recording, which is hardly
realized under the framework of conventional magnetic recording technology. In this sense, the microwave assistance effect is fundamentally
different from the conventional recording technology. In this talk, I will present the basic theory of microwave assistance effect and compare
our recent experimental results using the perpendicular magnetic Co/Pt multilayer nanodots and the CoCrPt based granular film.

Satoshi Okamoto—Associate Professor at institute of multidisciplinary research for advanced materials (IMRAM), Tohoku University from 2007.
Ph. D was earned at Tohoku Univ. in 1997. Expertise is magnetization dynamics, thin magnetic films, and nano-scale magnet.
